During a recent visit to their food bank, we had the opportunity to connect with Pastor John — better known as Coach John — whose efforts through Coach John Academy have been instrumental in empowering youth and building stronger communities. The visit marked the beginning of a meaningful connection between our team and the people behind these grassroots initiatives.

Food Access with Dignity

West Hill Community Support plays a vital role in the Scarborough area by offering reliable access to food and support services for individuals and families facing economic hardship. Their approach is rooted in dignity, compassion, and community care — meeting people where they are, and delivering assistance without barriers. Their food bank continues to serve as a stabilizing force in the neighbourhood, built entirely on the work of local leaders and volunteers.

The Leadership of Coach John

Pastor John, or Coach John, brings a unique combination of mentorship and leadership to the work he does. Through Coach John Academy, he has created programming that supports youth development through sports, academics, and real-world life skills. His work is deeply embedded in the communities he serves — providing structure, support, and a sense of belonging to young people navigating complex challenges. His leadership is a central force behind many of the positive outcomes tied to West Hill’s programming.
