Toronto personal injury lawyer Albert Conforzi: The choice of a specialty area in law is often somewhat random for young lawyers. They may be influenced by their teachers and peers, or perhaps television shows. It may depend on where they got an articling position right out of school. Sometimes, if they have a parent who is a lawyer, they may follow in that parent’s footsteps. For me the choice of personal injury law was, well, personal.
Personal Experience
While I was in university and considering a career in law, I had a relative who had been injured in a serious motor vehicle accident. I watched not only the snail’s pace at which his litigation moved, but also the way he was treated by his own lawyer. Phone calls went unreturned and status updates were impossible to come by. Then, at the time of resolution, the lawyer simply told his client what he was going to get as compensation without any explanation for it. Done deal, see you later.
Respect
Watching that experience led me to believe that there was a lot of room for improvement in service, client communication and ultimately in client satisfaction. Personal injury law involves dealing with people when they are at their most vulnerable. Lives and often jobs are at stake. Clients deserve attentive and respectful service.
